The connections within the network result in cooperations, projects and innovative products and services from the field of landfill technology for markets in Germany and abroad.
Main objectives
- Landfills as producers of energy – landfill recultivation areas as sites for renewable energies
iDetec aims at creating the technological requirements for the production of energy on landfill sites. Adjustments have to be made concerning the stability, the sealing, the management, the construction and the maintenance of landfills, so that energy from different sources can be used: for example the gaining of electricity or gas from landfill gas, the production of energy through photovoltaic or windmill power plants, the use of thermal energy from the landfill body or the cultivation of fuel crops on the site.
- Intelligent waste management includes an integrated landfill management
It is intended to create an intelligent waste management system which integrates a landfill management that meets the requirements of future landfill site rehabilitation: possible use for energy and resources, as well as an environmentally safe storage. Main areas of interest are for example the adjustment of sealing systems regarding the permeability and eco-friendliness, the increase in the speed of decay processes, the intelligent disposal of specific categories of remnants and their documentation, as well as the recultivation and/or use of landfill sites for infrastructure, recreation, agriculture, as residential areas or for the production of energy.
- Added values of landfills and waste cycle management
Another objective is the development of economic potential from the use of resources and from the rehabilitation of landfills. “Landfill Mining” or “urban mining” detects potential resources within landfills and makes them accessible, as well as evaluates the possibilities of their retrieval and their use.
