THESEIS – Training on Health and Safety for workers in the Environment Industrial Sector

Short description

Labour and health protection are important issues in the European environmental industry. In the areas of waste disposal, recycling, sewage treatment plants, air pollution control, groundwater remediation and noise protection 2.5 millions of people have found employment in the EU-25 states. They are exposed to profession specific risks on a daily basis, such as high physical exertion, noise and the handling of chemicals, which in turn can have a negative influence on the working and employment capacity. Those affected by these risks should therefore have the propper competences enabling them to deal adequately with the work-related sources of exertion and risk.

However, existing education and training concepts for the various directly and indirectly affected professional groups within the environmental industry don’t take up labour and health protection sufficiently. Currently, there are no adequate curricula for this issue, dealing with the branch specific demands. The Leonardo da Vinci project THESEIS now tries to fill exactly this gap. Together with eight partner countries eLearning modules will be developed along the legal guidelines, technologies and processes in the environmental industry. Furthermore, they shall be suitable to impart learning contents about labour and health protection. The Umweltcluster Bayern acts as a project partner on the German side, together with the Forschungsinstitut Betriebliche Bildung.

Objective

The European joint project THESEIS‘ main aim is to develop, test and disseminate eLearning modules for the diverse professional groups within the environmental industry in the field of labour and health protection.

The following sub-goals are part oft he strategy:

  • Identification of target group specific learning demands on labour and health protection
  • Inventory and identification of gaps within the existing education and training concepts for the impartation of target group specific competences
  • Development and testing of elaerning modules for labour and health protection
  • Transfer into practive via the organization of a final conference, publications and the active integration of extising networks and multiplicators from the different environmental industry sectors into the diffusion process
