Intelligent water management is becoming increasingly important in Bavarian municipalities. What advantages do solutions from the field of sensor technology offer for monitoring water resources, for reacting to flooding events or for a careful and efficient use of the resource water?
Project Objectives
Within the frame of a cross-cluster cooperation between the Sensor Technology Cluster and the Environmental Cluster Bavaria, technical solutions for current issues in municipal water management are to be identified and transferred to a pilot project.
Project Activities
1. Analysis / technology scouting: Identifying gaps in the cycle
The first step is a structured survey of needs from the areas relevant to the project. This is done, among other things, through expert interviews, quantitative surveys and workshops. Requirements for sensor systems can be derived from the evaluation of the needs. The comparison of the requirements with current solutions from the industrial context, as well as the evaluation of the potential for a technology transfer into the environmental sector, allow the conclusion of technological development paths.
2. Water Management Pilot
A first Bavarian municipality including its municipal supply and disposal companies is to be identified as the target object. The main topic or focus of the activities will probably be the "water-resilient settlement". Here, the high potential for the intelligent linking of environmental technology and sensor technology can be worked out on the basis of a large number of aspects. Questions ranging from flood management to irrigation and drainage to concrete measures for climate change adaptation are to be addressed. The focus will first be on analyzing the current situation with regard to hurdles and obstacles to the increased use of sensor elements in the various areas. Subsequently, the necessary framework conditions or feasibility requirements for the implementation will be defined. A concrete catalog of requirements is created, which can also be used as an example for other municipalities in Bavaria.
3. Knowledge Transfer
The results of the analysis and the progress of the pilot project are continuously publicized. This is intended to give visibility to examples that have been successfully implemented in practice, to pass on knowledge gained from experience to a wide circle and at the same time to motivate the realization of new projects.
